Trachtenfest - How do you do it?

The "Trachtenfest" is not just a well known giant in East Hessen but far reaching beyond its borders. Lots of people return each time because they know what awaits then. For everyone who has not yet made it here we offer you this information manual. The "Trachtenfest" takes place around the town core of Schlitz. Here reigns a colorful drive of activity. The center of this happening is in the market place. Here we find the stage, booths, stands, tents and in almost every corner between the castles we find a happening taking place. Next to the regional bands, national and international guests, music and dance groups give their best performances. Whether planed or spontaneous, four days of wacky fun leave no room for boredom, regardless if you’re seeking something modern, traditional or just a good old social gathering..

The fairgrounds – fun for the entire family

The Bahnhof Street is the main traffic artery of Schlitz but it’s off limits to traffic during the festival. Instead amusement park style attractions and rides await you. Some people ask the question at a place like this: How do you get a huge bumper car ride between these beautiful frame-worked houses on these tight streets? Okay we admit it! We don’t know but it works every time!

Parade without force

Feel free to do what you like! You’re not forced into anything at the Trachtenfest. If you miss the parade at 2:00 o’clock on Sunday afternoon don’t blame anyone but yourself. Each time it’s an absolute highlight and always different. It’s the colorful mix of people that make it so special. It’s the big traditional things like the around 80 topic oriented numbers that show off the traditional handwork of the Schlitzer region and the approximately 2000 people that make up the about 40 traditional costumes and music groups. Another specialty that gives this parade its unique flair is that all the wagons are not just horse drawn but by cows as well. Nature with longevity, while even long after this about 1.5 hour event is over the streets are fragranced with the special smell of, we can not tell a lie, the streets are pretty well dominated by horse apples!
